LET'S TALK TRASH

Let's Talk Trash was a project by Green Initiative to assess the amount of trash produced by UAB students across campus. In this campaign, we were aiming to further educate the student body at UAB about the amount of trash produced by the students and by society that ultimately ends up in landfills, unable to decompose for hundreds of years. Green Initiative held its first waste audit at Heritage Hall in Fall of 2019, sorting through over 300 pounds of trash into piles such as compostable, recycling, and landfill, and its second waste audit of the Hill Student Center in Spring 2021. Students volunteers were able to have a hands on learning experience through this process.  We want to provide students with strategies to divert and reduce the waste, which will hopefully lead to less trash being produced over time.
